Can Cauliflower become your new best friend?

As much as I avoided even tasting this heavenly vegetable, having come across the numerous benefits recently has totally blown me away. Although I agree it does come across as intimidating but it has such a wide range of pros that we can derive just by simply consuming it.

Let us all consider that is it also extremely low on the glycemic index, meaning that it will not cause a significant rise in blood sugar levels or insulin increase (Good enough for PCOS league I suppose). It has unfathomable benefits and I can name endless reasons as to why you should incorporate it into your diet. It is also pleasingly filling and a safe side dish for people who are trying to lose weight and control PCOS symptoms. It's classified as a cruciferous vegetable, so it has similar nutrients to other vegetables in this group, like broccoli, asparagus, and Brussels sprouts.*

Now, lets shed some light on the various vitamins and minerals it has to offer. Starting with Vitamin C, an antioxidant that is abundant in cauliflower, it is not only an anti-cancer antioxidant but it's also necessary for collagen biosynthesis and skin health. Folate, which is another deficiency that women with PCOS face can be obtained through this veggie which is an essential element for your brain health. The phytonutrients in cauliflower are anti-inflammatory, so can play a role in treating inflammatory conditions like PCOS, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.*

One of the perks of consuming it is that you can blend as many flavors as you please and it will take it lovingly. I recently cooked up a recipe by an amazing cook (forgetting the name as usual), although the recipe was called 'Mediterranean Cauliflower Rice' - so perhaps Google this and it'll take you to it. Anyways, so since I've been consumed by doing profound research and getting into nitty-gritty about PCOS* and PCOS friendly diets, I have also only recently been exposed to this humble veggie.

To all those who're reading this and probably making cringe-worthy faces thinking about the taste, trust me honestly it is BLAND. So you've got nothing to fear people, you can cook it as you like, prepare it with as many nuts, dry fruits, spices, oils, whatever fancies you tongue and have a great low-GI diet ready to soothe your tummy when the hunger pangs kick in.

You can replace this with several types of grains that you've been planning to replace. It very well goes with salads, curries and even along with quinoa. It holds such human-friendly properties since it can be cooked or prepared in so many forms that are quite hassle-free.

You can mix it in butter with cheese for a smooth and creamy mashed potato substitute (trust me and don't groan before you try it, you'll grow fond of it), or add eggs, cheese and herbs. I've also come across some beautiful looking meals such as pizzas, wraps and what, not ALL made out of cauliflower.

As we come to our conclusion, I would like to leave all my readers with a thought that since there is no cure for PCOS, as to now, it is possible for a person to reduce their symptoms and improve their quality of life by adopting a more preferred lifestyle, diet and exercise plan. By maintaining a healthy weight and eating healthful fats, lean proteins, and moderate amounts of low-GI carbohydrates can help a person manage PCOS. Love to all the readers - #BeingWell
